Biography of Kenneth Kirk

Kenneth Kirk has been an Alaska attorney since 1987. He currently practices from an office in midtown Anchorage.

Mr. Kirk is a born-and-raised Alaskan. He graduated from Chugiak High School and the University of Alaska, Anchorage. He then went on to the Cornell Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctorate, with a concentration in business law and regulation, in 1987. He was admitted to the Alaska Bar that same year, and opened his own practice a few months later.

Mr. Kirk’s law practice is concentrated in three areas:estate planning (the use of wills, trusts, and other devices to facilitate smooth transfer and handling of someone’s assets when they die or become incapacitated), Medicaid planning (making people eligible for various public benefits if they do not qualify because of excessive income or assets), and adoptions (representing prospective adoptive parents). In the past he has handled cases in other areas of practice, but now largely limits his practice to those three types.

Kenneth Kirk is admitted to practice before the Alaska Supreme Court, before all other courts and agencies of the State of Alaska, before the U.S. District Court for Alaska, and before the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He practices throughout the state of Alaska, from his office in Anchorage.

Mr. Kirk has always believed in public service, and has held a number of positions, including serving many years as a member of the Appellate Rules Committee for the Alaska court system, and serving as chairman of the Elder Law Section of the Alaska Bar Association. He presently serves as a Commissioner of the Alaska Public Offices Commission, and is active in his church. He has written a law review article on end-of-life decision making, and writes regularly, on a variety of law-related topics, for the Alaska Bar Rag.

He is a member of the Alaska Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Christian Legal Society, and the Alaska Bar sections on Elder Law, and Estate Planning and Probate.

He lives in Anchorage and has three lovely and talented daughters, and a wife who looks like she might be one of his daughters. He also has two dogs and a gecko.
